All mixed media on paper, these playful explorations in colour and light, texture and the circle motif, almost look like living organisms, multilayered and colour-saturated. Histories are exposed through traces of layers or others’ ‘lives’ seen beneath the surface.
See below for workshop participants in collaborative action as they create these first surfaces over which Sara, back in the studio, adds further layers.
As with all other work in Sara’s Begun with Others collection, the Circles of Light series began as unwanted or discarded material collaboratively-created with workshop participants. Participants over the years have included school refusers, prisoners, adults and children with mental health challenges and carers, refugees, English language learners, family groups, art students, dancers, primary and secondary school children, teacher trainers, community builders.
Each of the paintings in Sara’s Circles of Light series incorporate work created by at least one of these beneficiary groups.
